ISLAND FORUM VOTED A MAJOR SUCCESS!

ISLAND Sustainable living on Islands was in the spotlight at a recent successful forum held on North Stradbroke, Russell and Macleay Islands.Leading experts from around the country descended on our island group to bring knowledge, experience and information to the South East Queensland Forum.More than 120 people attended over the three days of the forum, with acknowledgement that the format provided valuable information and possible future directions.Redland City Council Mayor Karen Williams and Division 5 Councillor, Mark Edwards hosted the event with principal advisor on strong communities, Frank Pearce, co-ordinating the event.The forum provided the opportunity for Islanders to come together; learn from each other; discuss common issues; discover ways of working together; and return home enthused and empowered to make a difference.Keynote speakers came from all over Australia and included Jayne Bates the Mayor of Kangaroo Island; David Thomson, General Manager Transit Systems; Dr Michael Kortt, Economist specialising in local government economics; Karen Williams, Mayor of Redland City Council; Zane Trow - Manager of arts centres, festivals and arts programs.A local panel which featured on Macleay Island, included Cr Mark Edwards, Trevor Hulbert and Tony Gilson.Many who attended the event, rated it a major success.It was the second such Island Forum, with the first held on Lord Howe Island, and the next, from April 22-25, 2015, on Flinders Island in Tasmania.
