The ribbon will be cut on the $500,000 Macleay Island community skate park and the entire community is invited.
Division 5 Councillor for the Southern Moreton Bay Islands (SMBI) Mark Edwards said the project was the culmination of a great deal of work by the Macleay Island community.
“This really was a community project and I would like to congratulate those who were involved in its design and construction and encourage everyone to come along to the grand opening on May 31,” Cr Edwards said.
“The event will include skaters, showing what the new facility is capable of, as well as live music and give aways.
“The opening event kicks off at 10am at the skate park on the corner of High Central Road and Scarborough Terrace.”
Cr Edwards said the skate park had been designed for beginner, intermediate and advanced users and features ramps, steps and grind walls for skaters, scooter and BMX riders.
“This facility offers something for the whole community, from the young to the young at heart,” he said.
“With free travel between the bay islands available through TransLink, all SMBI residents will be able to attend the opening event and access the new skate park for free.”
“The Southern Moreton Bay Islands have a vibrant youth population and this facility is a fantastic result that all residents should be proud of.”
