BETTER BUSINESS APRIL

April 17, 2016

JOHN GILL’S LONG ISLAND LINKS

Well known Timber Man John Gill has had links to our islands for more than 50 years. In fact, the business was started by his grandfather Lynnwood Lawrence Gill way back in 1926. With John’s son David now taking over most of the operations, the business is heading in some new directions. “We have been supplying building timber to the islands for generations,” John said. “It has been wonderful to see the islands grow and change and we are glad we have been a part of that,” he added. David Gill is keen to head John Gill The Timber Man into new directions with the help of his wife Rebecca, who both work out of the Cleveland huge timber yard. David said: ”We want islanders to know that we are keen to service the Bay Islands and they won’t get better service anywhere. If you need timber for your next island building project, then come and see me,” he told Better Island Business.

EAST COAST REAL ESTATE

Welcome to our columns the husband and wife team of Russell and Karen Jackson of East Coast Residential and Prestige. The real estate business operates from Coochiemudlo Island and the couple are keen to not just sell Coochie Real Estate, but to reflect a confident and positive Coochiemudlo Island. We wish them well!

COFFEE BAR AT ORGANIC MARKET ON MACLEAY

A new Coffee Bar is proving really popular at the Organic Market held every Saturday at the Lemon Farm on Macleay Island. Eleesa Zlatic has made the Organic Market a popular destination over the years providing organic product for keen islanders. The Organic Coffee Bar is a great innovation. Organic Coffee and Teas are served along with Organic Fair-trade and Hot Chocolate. There are also non dairy options available. Eleesa has some great long term plans for the Organic Market. It is a great place to enjoy a Saturday morning!

COFFEE SHOP OPPORTUNITY

The Our Place Coffee Shop at Emerald Isle on Macleay island was set to be taken over by new owners, but it has since fallen through. Everything from the previous operators is there and the business is all set to go. There is an excellent opportunity for someone who knows how to cook and, importantly, knows how to make good coffee and tea - it is an art form! If you want to know more, call and see Robyn at Emerald Isle Shopping Village.

PUB PARADISE

Pub Paradise is going from strength to strength with some new directions. Not least of which was the recent Psychic Fair that was held at the new look destination. Literally big groups of women turned up to enjoy the day organised by the very active Girls Day Out ladies. The psychics were ‘flat out’ all day, hardly getting a chance for a break. There are lots of new happenings at Pub Paradise, including a Big Band appearance this month. Check out their full page advertisement in this issue for the details!

MACLEAY ISLAND MARKETS

Macleay Island Monthly Community Markets are looking for some new stall holders. The popular markets are held at the Macleay Island Community Centre grounds each and every month and are sponsored by the Macleay Island Lions Club. The markets provide fun for all the family with a Jumping Castle and activities for the kids, Vietnamese and Aussie foods, fresh, raw honey, hot and cold drinks, home-made cakes, ladies and kids clothing, jewellery and bric-a-brac, second hand goods, toys, arts and crafts, plants, homewares, music and entertainment. The next market day will be Saturday, May 7. Bring along family and friends. If you would like a stall, phone Elaine 0421132007.
