BETTER ISLAND BUSINESS
A NEW DIRECTION FOR ISLAND BUSINESS
MOORE’S FARM COUNCIL PURCHASE
The purchase of Moore’s Farm at Weinam Creek by the Redland City Council will have a significant impact on future business and directions for the Bay Islands. It can be assumed that any future with the Walker Group could now in jeopardy and there may be a ‘better way’ to quickly develop the Weinam Creek PDA precinct. None of it could happen, however, without council’s latest announcement re the acquisition of Moore’s Farm. The possibilities are seemingly endless. New parking and the PDA development changes the ‘front cover’ to the islands. Then throw in the new and improved foreshore on Macleay Island and the possibility of new jetties for all the Bay Islands and, hey presto, the future looks exceedingly bright for the Bay Islands!
FIVE STAR SUPERMARKET REVAMP
The Five Star Supermarket on Macleay Island has undergone a major transformation in recent weeks. A whole new storage system has been installed at Five Star, including new flooring and now, totally new refrigeration units. It is a big investment in the supermarket and the island. The changes allow for more storage and more product and better presentation. Go and check it out!
CHURCH COLUMBARIUM ON MACLEAY ISLAND
in all the fuss in relation to the opening of the lovely Bay Islands Memorial Garden on Russell Island, many are unaware of the Columbarium that has long been available with little use behind the Church of the Church of the Holy Spirit on Macleay Island. The lovely glass rear to the church overlooks a white dove and wall in the external garden area. This is where several sections of storage for family remains have been in place for several years. The only trouble is, very few know about it. Apparently the facility is quite reasonable in price. A place for the storage of family ashes can be obtained for $600 and includes the price of a plaque as well. You can find out more about it by phoning 0412136250. [A columbarium is a place for the respectful and public storage of cinerary urns which hold the ashes of loved ones]
WHY SOLAR ON ISLANDS
Solar electrical systems are now being installed on our islands by Nico Beyleveld of Why Electrical and Engineering Pty Ltd. Nico has come up with a great offer that should prove popular with owners of both new and existing island homes. He will provide a 6kw high efficiency solar system for just $3999. This system previously was available for $6199, which means there is a considerable saving involved. Conditions do apply to this offer. You can find out more by giving Nico a call by phoning 0450576905 or emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org
GERARD JACOBS LEAVING
Talented island panel beater and spray painter Gerard Jacobs is leaving the islands. We have written about Gerard and his skills on a number of occasions, but he was never quite able to generate enough work on the islands to keep him here. It is our loss. However, he won’t be all that far away, taking on a similar mobile repair operation in central and northern Brisbane, starting in early February. He hasn’t ruled out returning to the islands at a later date. “I may come back here to retire,” he told us.
