The Bay Islands Memorial Garden on Russell Island is growing in popularity.
The Memorial Garden concept was the 'brainchild' of Cr Mark Edwards and was designed specifically for a lovely council area just off High Street on Russell Island.
It was opened by Cr Mark Edwards two years ago.
Since then, more than 10 allotments have been secured for future use and interment/memorialisation.
"I wanted islanders to have their own 'special place' where interment of ashes could take place.
"I believe the Memorial Garden has achieved that purpose," Cr Edwards added.
He encouraged islanders to make use of the facility.
"It is a lovely and peaceful place for interment and I have been pleased with the take-up by island families."
He said several families had also secured their site for 'future use'.
Fortunately, there is a selection of spaces available.
There is also a capacity to expand the memorial garden at a later date as demand grows.
