The countdown is on to the 6th Tingira Boat Club Macleay Island Classic. The annual canoe race around Macleay Island has grown in stature since it was started by the boat club back in 2008.The event this year will again be part of the Queensland Canoeing Calendar with elite canoeists from all over Australia coming to Macleay Island for the prestigious event. It will be staged on Sunday May 18, with the start/finish at the Tingira Boat Club, Macleay Island. The Macleay Island Classic is for elite paddlers, however, there are other categories including a popular relay race around the island for less experienced paddlers, and fun events for local island paddlers. It is believed the organiser are also considering races for six-man outrigger canoes, dragon boats and surf boats. Many competitors will arrive on the islands on the Saturday with a special function that night at the Tingira Boat Club in 91 Coast Road, Macleay Island. The event is a popular one and an ideal compliment to island lifestyle and water interests.Find out more by contacting Neville Prosser at or 34095341 or 0425798750.
