The winner of the Buy Island Local $1000 for Christmas is young Macleay Island mother Rayner Ward.

Rayner's first words when she was told she had won the $1000 Cash for Christmas first prize, were: 'I have never won anything in my life before'.

Then she burst into tears!

Rayner was quick to get herself down to the Le Bon Bakery where the draw for the 2014 Friendly Bay Islander $1000 Cash for Christmas was held.

Cr Mark Edwards was kind to attend and draw the winning tickets, and thanks go to Kerrie and John from Le Bon for hosting the draw.

Rayner says she was 'totally shocked' with the win.

"I had been wondering how I was going to get my son the computer he needs for school next year.

"It was so helpful at this time of the year.

"I am ever so grateful and I wish to thank you so much. It was wonderful," she said.

The $1000 prize was donated by The Friendly Bay Islander.

Rayner was not the only winner on the day.

There were three other prizes drawn.

James Lundrum won the second prize of a $100 open order from Supa IGA on Russell Island.

Third prize was a $50 open order courtesy of Jacqui from Canaipa Nursery. The winner was Colin Finn.

Fourth prize was a family pizza and garlic bread thanks to Le Bon Bakery and was won by Keith Parker from Wallumbillla, near Roma, Queensland.

The Friendly Bay Islander would like to thank all the businesses that participated in the Buy Island Local campaign.

The competition was about raising the profile and supporting island business.
