ISLAND SENIORS URGED TO BE PART OF SENIORS WEEK, 2015!

• Getting ready for Seniors Week Dennis (bowls), Narelle (table tennis), Glynis Enright from BICS, Rob (golf) and Nev in front ready for tennis.

Seniors on our Bay Islands have no excuse for not getting involved in Seniors Week 2015.

A week of fun and active events has been planned for the week from August 15 to 23.

The event on the Bay Islands is being planned and organised by Bay Island Community Services Inc.

“Many islanders are involved in the planning and running of events,” Tony Cotroneo the coordinator of community services on the islands.

The program this year will involve a host of activities including a Seniors Table Tennis Tournament at The Hut on Monday, 17th August.

The Bay Islands Tennis Club will also be conducting a Seniors Doubles Tournament as well as a Plus 70’s Mixed Doubles Tournament. These will be played on the new Russell Island Sports Complex Courts.

There will also be a Seniors fun day of golf at the Bay Islands Golf Club on Macleay Island. This will be held earlier on Sunday 9th August. No handicap is required and there will be three age categories over 50 over 60 and over 70.

Barefoot Bowls at the Russell Island Bowls Club is another major event to be held on Sunday, 16th August, and will also be a fun event.

It will all culminate with the Seniors Week Walk, Market Stalls and Live Music on Saturday, August 22nd 8.30am with the Start and Finish at the Bay Islands Community Services Inc centre at 55 Jackson Road, Russell Island.

Tony Cotroneo emphasised that Seniors Week was for ‘all islanders’.

“We want seniors from all the islands to get involved.

“Contact our office for more information or anyone needs to be picked up at the ferry,” he said.
