KOALA POO A HIT!
You will be delighted and certainly pleased to know that ‘Koala Poo’ is definitely a hit here at Seashells Cafe at Amity. It is the latest of our creations for those visitors who wish to get ‘up close and friendly’ with our koala neighbours. Koala Poo is sold here in little packets and is designed to keep koala watchers from starving whilst out ‘observing’ our marsupial friends. And for the uneducated, ‘koala poo’ tastes remarkably like chocolate liquorice bullets, but we deny that there is any similarity!
GO REX KIMLIN!
What a surprise! Local resident Rex Kimlin has made it onto the front cover of this edition of the FBI. Woo Hoo and Yippie! Rex is a lovely gentleman now well into his 90’s and we are pleased to say that we brought Rex’s story to the attention of our erstwhile Editor. Lovely story about a wonderful survivor.
SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN
The recent school holidays were somewhat of a ‘hit’ at Amity. The caravan park was busy, and so were we here at Seashells. We have had plenty of seafood and it certainly is in demand, particularly at holiday time. In fact, seafood is synonymous with holidays!
ROAD WORKS BAD TIMING
We really do appreciate the roadworks that have recently been carried out by Redland City Council at Amity. However, the timing wasn’t the best. Sovereign Road was affected and so was the local seafood supplier right in the middle of the school holidays. Perhaps better luck next time?
AMITY JETTY POPULAR
Great to see the Amity Jetty back in full use after it was put out of action again following some previous work. It certainly was the place for many youngster keen to have a fish whilst on holiday. We hope that it stays in good condition for some time to come.
WE NEED A MARINA!
The next issue I am going to harp on about is the need for a marina here at Amity. Years ago the Swing Basin used to be used by trawlers for mooring. Silting over the years put an end to the use by bigger craft, but it is still the ideal place for a future marina. Perhaps our council can interest some investors or look to the area itself for future development of this nature. It certainly would be wonderful for the Amity economy.
AMITY COMMUNITY CLUB TO HOST MELBOURNE CUP
Get your best hats and outfits out of mothballs. All roads lead to the Amity Point Community Club for Melbourne Cup day. The club is famous on Straddie for its Melbourne Cup functions each year, and everyone will be heading in that direction on the first Tuesday in November!

Amity General Dealers Kylie an Duane were pleased with the recent school holidays. Good weather and strong visitation means a strong season. They are suppliers of anything and everything at Amity. They are our supermarket, local fishing suppliers and our friendly local storekeepers.
SCHOOLS VISITS
We are constantly visited by schools coming to North Straddie on excursions. Silkwood was a recent visitor with a busload of youngsters and teachers trundling out to enjoy lunch at Seashells. Others to also recently visit included Glasshouse and Bond University. They are definitely welcome and all find our island a great excursion.
SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS?
Not quite, but we do have seven weddings booked in for catering in the coming weeks. The island is a popular destination for weddings. Many relate their big event to a childhood memory. So many of our visitors have stories relating back to another time. The more the merrier I say!
