That Karra man with the green thumbs, Errol Pugh, is at it again! Errol is renowned around the islands for his gardening skills. With Errol doing the work, plant it and it will grow! The dapper Karragarra resident for years worked in gardening for Redland City Council. Since retirement, he has taken responsibility for the foreshore on Karragarra Island. That’s why pulling into the Karragarra jetty is such a delight. Drums of Bougainvillia welcome both residents and visitors alike. Errol is also the man who introduced those famous Karra lights a couple of years ago (or maybe more!) His light sculptures caused passing boats and ferries to slow down at night to enjoy his once weekly lighting masterpieces. That experience came to an end thanks to some power supply issues. In recent times Errol has extended his gardening works down to Karra Beach. Pink pig face grows naturally on the foreshore.
Errol noticed this and has been taking cuttings from one area, and gradually spreading to other areas adjacent to the beach. The result is getting more spectacular by the day. He has also been doing work on the lawns and gardens around the Karra Beach community sheds in readiness for the recent Melbourne Cup Day function. He tells us he loves to keep his ‘hand in’ with his gardening exploits and islanders are the beneficiaries of his generosity.
Errol Pugh is an island Gem!
