MACLEAY PARKING TENDER SELECTION TO BE ANNOUNCED

The successful tender for the Macleay Island $6 million parking project are about to be announced.

The closing date for the tender was Thursday, March 2, 2017.

According to Cr Mark Edwards, it will take council ‘about two weeks’ to select the successful tender.

In advertising the tender, council stated:

Redland City Council (RCC) is seeking tenders from main/head Contractors for civil and marine upgrade works at Russell Terrace, Macleay Island - Redland City.

Works includes but not limited to:

  1. Upgrade of existing carpark and road;

  2. New carpark construction;

  3. New seawall, two (2) lane boatramp and ancillary marine infrastructure construction;

  4. Associated electrical including Rate 2 and Rate 3 lighting, landscaping, road furniture, fencing, signage, pathways, pavement, linemarking works, etc.

  5. Once the successful tender is known, it is believed it will take about a month before equipment starts appearing on the site.

  6. it is believed that work will also done by council on a parking area next to the former LJ Hooker office site to house island cars whilst the bottom car park at the jetty is utilised in the construction process.

Council is in discussions with the owner of the land next to the old LJ Hooker building to provide formalised car parking arrangements and pedestrian access to the Macleay Island jetty.

“This area will need to be in place in case of disruption during the construction of the new car park area,” the councillor said.

However, Cr Edwards believes the contractor will endeavour to carry out the work with as little disruption to existing island car parking, as possible.

Decisions on this area will be made before works starts on the car park proper.
