Celebrate the rich Indigenous culture of our city with an exciting array of events during the third Quandamooka Festival, which officially opens on Sunday 2 July.
The annual event celebrates Quandamooka Culture, Country and People from July to September, including cultural tours, whale-watching, dance, live music, art and good food
Redland Mayor Karen Williams said the three-month calendar of events featured activities and interests for all ages, including whale watching tours, art exhibitions, music, song and dance, markets, food and more.
“From the welcoming event - Yura - on Sunday 2 July, to a music and dance spectacular at the closing ceremony in late-September, this year’s Quandamooka Festival is jam-packed with an extensive showcase of traditional and contemporary Indigenous art and culture,” she said.
“The festival is a unique opportunity to learn more about the rich Aboriginal heritage of our city and the relationship between our Traditional Owners and their land and waters.
“Council is proud to continue supporting the Quandamooka Festival.”
Mayor Williams said events such as the Quandamooka Festival delivered vital economic and cultural benefits to the city.
“Those of us lucky enough to live in the Redlands know how beautiful it is and the important role of Quandamooka culture for our city and this festival is a chance to showcase the rich cultural links to the region,” she said.
“I encourage everyone to spread the word, tell your friends and family to mark it on their calendar and keep an eye out for the full program of events.”
The festival includes the following events:
2 July: Yura (Welcome!) Quandamooka Festival Opening Celebration at Goompi (Dunwich) during NAIDOC Week
29 July: Yura Yalingbila – Welcome the Whales, Headland Park, Mooloomba (Pt Lookout)
23 & 24 September: Kunjiel (Corroborree) at 100 East Coast Rd, Goompi (Dunwich)
30 September: Buangan Biyigi – Dolphin Day Celebrations at Pulan Pulan (Amity Point)
More events and a full program will be released closer to the festival.
