Redland City Council recently announced that Southsea Terrace was to be upgraded and sealed from Brighton Rd to Ryde St, Macleay Island.
They stated that internal construction crews and contractors would be upgrading the important strip from the new Macleay Island Medical Centre premises for the entire length of the street to the east.
Just prior to that, council advised that it would not be going ahead with a proposal to lease a large area of land adjacent to this street next to the old LJ Hooker office.
That was a blow to Cr Mark Edwards who had hoped the large area could have been useful, particularly whilst construction of the new large car park and waterfront works valued in excess of $6 million, was being carried out.
However, the council works team at the 11th hour came up with an alternate plan that will see the Southsea Terrace road works also incorporate a car park strip the length of the street that will accommodate 38 car parking spaces.
“This is a great compromise,” Cr Edwards told The Friendly Bay Islander.
So now the works will involve the construction of a gravel pavement, application of two coat bitumen seal and the installation of wheel stops to designated parking areas, as well as the 38 car park spaces.
The work on Southsea Terrace us likely to have started the time of publication.
