The Russell Island RSL Club is in the process of undergoing a major transformation.
The changes are both structural and directional.
“The club physically is being reshaped,” says RSL Sub Branch president Anthony Gleeson.
A thorough makeover of the club has been underway.
In recent days the club’s new UBET facility has been opened.
The state-of-the-art amenity is equal to any in Australia and features a wall of massive screens and smaller screens that cover all aspects of sports activity.
The club’s toilet blocks have also had a complete makeover, including an entirely new septic system installed.
Internal areas have been reshaped with the old betting area being turned into a club lounge.
The new look just outside the internal toilet areas, will be extended internally throughout the club into the dining room and lounge and bar areas.
The RSL’s former outdoor entertainment area is also being transformed.
A ceiling is being installed to be followed by new lighting and then the walls will be closed in to make the large area into a huge new indoor entertainment area.
It will also be air conditioned.
The front of the club is also going to change.
“There will be a new entry the club via a display corridor in the same area of the present entry, but it will open into the new section of the club,”Anthony Gleeson said.
Plans are also underway for the entire parking area to be completely redesigned and newly sealed.
It is quite a list for the busy Russell Island RSL Club.
President Anthony Gleeson said the physical changes are about providing the best possible facilities for club members and their guests.
“We want the people and families of all the islands to know that this club is second-to-none.
“Not only are our facilities going to be best they possibly can, but the services we provide are equal to any club anywhere.
“We want island families to come here in comfort and safety and to enjoy themselves,” he said.
The club has led the way with new innovations including car giveaways and new events such as the annual ball, which is to be held again in August. The current car giveaway is scheduled for a September draw.
