For Macleay Island Bowls Club bowlers, it is the penultimate event of the year.
It is the annual club championships when the best of the best come to play.
2017 was no exception with competition keen but also friendly, with nearly all club members involved.
When the competition was over, it was then time for the best part: the presentation of awards.
These were held at Club Macleay just prior to Christmas, and what an event it was.
The top bowlers in the club come to the fore in men’s and ladies’ singles championship.
The men’s singles champion for 2017 is Randy "NOI" Pearce and club ladies singles champion is Jennifer Ross.
In the pairs events, men's champions are Brian Stephenson and Bill Cross and the ladies pairs champions are Julie Brooks and Donna Roberts
Open triples champions are Shaun Brown, Brad Thomas and Max McRae.
In the men's fours, champions are Barry De Rooy, Loza Levy, Brad Thomas and Paul
Haig-Smith.
The ladies fours champions are Ann Welsh, Julie Brooks, Jennifer Ross and Jan De
Rooy.
The mixed pairs championship was won by Bill Cross and Julie Brooks and the mixed consistency champion is Bradley Woodland.
The 2017 Golden Bowl Award was won by Norm Hollingsworth and the mixed novice champion is Shaun Brown.
Congratulations to one and all for 2017 Macleay Bowling Club Championship played in a great spirit; with the presentation event at Club Macleay a great day for the bowlers.
Club Macleay is changing its entertainment program this year with once-a-month specialty shows and theme nights.
In January Club Macleay are hosting 'The Amazing B Party' where (obviously) the theme is the letter B where patrons can go all out or keep it simple, as long as it starts with B.
Our entertainers are an amazing duo and there will be great food, laughs, dancing, mayhem and prizes for best dressed.
More Bowling News: The club will be holding a special tournament for Maclday Island bowling members in April. It's called 1 Bowl Fours where each team of four players only play with 1 bowl.
This will be the club’s first tournament as such, in a long time, and this is a ‘test run’ as the club plans to take this to the next level hosting a repeat tournament to all other district clubs - it will be a real worthwhile experience.
Macleay mens bowlers are due to play in the Gateway Summer Shield starting in January. Our men won this in 2016 and hope to bring home the glory again.
ALSO: The club is also moving ahead technologically. A new visitor sign has been installed in the kiosk where visitors and guests can electronically sign in - no more books. FREE WI-FI is now also available for anyone in the club, not only will this be great for members, but it will be ideal for conferences and meetings
