We are excited to share with you that we now have an operational AED (Defibrillator) at the station, however, please remember that our station is not manned so you must ring 000 in the event of an emergency. As mentioned last month, we will soon become a fully functional Emergency Services Hub, with Energex soon to move into the station also. Now that the Ambulance vehicle is stored in the Fire shed, it has been easier to assist and support QAS. Our officers have responded to 24 QAS assists since the end of February and are happy to provide this service to our community.

During July our officers will complete their CPR upgrade and some will be doing their Advanced CPR in November. We also have 4 members who are almost finished their "Senior Firefighter" Course. Our ongoing training still takes place on the 1st Sunday of each month at 10am and the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 3.30pm. When special training sessions are being conducted across all the islands, we will join our fellow members from Russell and Macleay which makes it easier overall.

Our crew now stands at 16 operational crew and 10 support members. For anyone wishing to join, feel free to contact Noel Walker (1st Officer) or John Simpkin (Secretary) for membership forms.

Our Annual General Meeting will take place on 10July at 5.30pm. All are welcome.

There are always ongoing issues which we try to follow up with but recently we have decided to look into or follow up on some ideas that can/will benefit those who choose to live here in this community. For example:

  • Star Transport – may be closer to your door than you think and more information will circulated to the community in due course.

  • BIMSARA (Bay Islands Multi Sport and Recreation Association) – we are considering becoming a member of this group for numerous reasons, which has the potential to open doors for grants and more.

  • “Coffee with a Cop” – this program has been successful on Macleay and we are looking to get involved.

  • Community Solar Scheme – we are extremely interested in this and will be looking into the benefits, costs and what’s involved in implementing this scheme here on Lamb Island.

  • Autonomous cars – there is a lot of chatter about testing these vehicles and why not test them out here on Lamb. This could very well solve a lot of parking issues at our jetty and create a more environment friendly community.

Major issues are mostly regarding the infrastructure here on the islands and in the Redland Bay area, especially the Weinam Creek Marina. This not only affects us on Lamb, but also the whole Redland Bay community. Lastly, congratulations to our new committee who were recently elected and are as follows: President: Ewald Schrober, Secretary: Julie Schrober, Treasurer: Dave Tardent, Vice President: Barry Rawlinson.

For information regarding our group, feel free to visit our website, email us, follow us on Facebook or attend any one of our meetings. The details are:

Winter is coming! There is a definite chill in the air nowadays and although it may be a bit slower for some of us to get up and ready, Chris and Eka continue to open their doors. It may be cold but there is still enough sun left in the day to come down and enjoy a nice hot drink and some lunch. So come down and visit them: Monday – Friday 6.30am – 6.30pm and Saturday/Sunday 7am – 3pm.
