TIME N TIDE

A NEW NAME FOR REDLANDS

Someone let the cat out of the bag when the Prime Minister visited recently and announced that a new name will soon be introduced for the Redlands. It will be the ‘imaginative’ Redlands Coast, to go with all the other ‘Coast’ (Gold, Sunshine etc) around Australia’s long shoreline. To be a bit different we reckon they could have considered Redland by the Bay or perhaps Redlands Country to go with Quandamooka Country, but then again, we were not asked!!

BIG TELSTRA BLACKOUT INTERNET

Wow! Telstra out for nearly four days on the islands and no explanation! That’s how it was for many islanders last month when Telstra went down, for the longest time on Macleay Island. The effect on business was considerable. Most of the businesses on the islands use Telstra to process online payments. If your business was affected, you can claim a refund from Telstra. You can call them on 125111 or 137663

THEFT OF NUMBER PLATES

Thieves on the mainland are out and about again. Several cars have lost number plates of late. Clearly they are being used to keep unregistered cars on the road by the thieves. Keep a look out and check your plates before you drive off, because you could end up getting a fine as well!

TRIBUTE SEAT FOR MICK FRASER AT PAT’S PARK

Michael (Mick) Fraser was a long time resident of Macleay Island. He was known for his house painting, an author of several books, and produced and directed three movies here on the Island. He was horrifically injured on Lamb Island in July 2014 sustaining severe brain damage and after enduring 14 operations on his right leg it had to be amputated to save his life. Mick’s daughter, Sue Brown from Victoria, took her dad home where he remained in a nursing home until his passing in July 2017. His ashes were scattered on the Bay. Friend Pat Sutton tells us she would personally like to thank Cr Mark Edwards for all his help; Ted Upton for donating the two slabs of timber and Julie ‘Chook’ Larson of Running Wild and her crew for making and installing the seat and also Jude Fernandez for the engraving of Mick’s name. “Without their input I would not have been able to achieve this”, thank you all so much”, Pat said.
