• GOLF CLUB Captains report for May. Firstly I would like to thank Gail Spann for helping myself in taking over the position of Club Captain and wish her all the best in her new role as President of the Bay Islands Golf Club. I would also like to welcome Jake Leonard as my Vice Captain and know he is going to be a great asset not only to myself but to the club. I would also like to wish everyone that has been appointed to the committee all the best for the coming year and hope it will be a great year not only for the golfers but for everyone that comes to socialise as well. We started off the month with the ever popular stableford on the 2nd May and the winner was Larry Fabian with 41 points and the runner up was very popular Vice President Anthony Flanigan with 39 points. We then had the Mens Monthly Medal on the 5th May and the A grade winner was Terry Fry (and oldie but a goodie) with a nett 63 and the runner up was Jim Turner with a nett 66. The B grade winner was Bruce Kearney with the overall best score of a nett 62 and the runner up was Kev Rodgers (showing that a man in is 80’s still has it) with a nett 63. Another man in his 80’s is our C grade winner Ron Hodder with a nett 62 on a countback for the overall best score and the runner up was Mike Ford with a nett 65. The 9th May was a 2BBB Stroke event and the winners were David Cross and Michael Treay with a nett 58 and the runner ups were Jake Leonard and Ralph Robertson on a countback also with a nett 58. The 12th May was a Stableford event with the mens winner once again being Terry Fry with 42 points and the runner up on a countback being Mike Ford also with 42 points. The ladies winner was our newly appointed president Gail Spann with 33 points and also on a countback the runner up was Sue Powter with 33 points. 16th May was a stableford event and the winner was Laurie Fleming 41 points and and the runner up was Larry Fabian with 40 points. The 19th May was a stroke event and the Mens winner was Ray Noy who has just been made a well deserved life member for all the work he has done in the past and continues to do for the club and had a nett 57 and the runner up was Gregory Packer with a nett 59. The ladies winner was our newly appointed Ladies Captain Sue Domrow with a nett 61 and the runner up was our retiring treasurer who has worked tirelessly for the club for many years and has earned a well deserved rest Jessie Snooks with a nett 65. 23rd May was a Stableford event and the winner was Lee Petersen with 40 points and the runner up was Gail Spann with 39 points. Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th was the Mens Foursomes event and there were some great combinations in teams and a lot involved in organising an event such as this so firstly thank you to Gloria Hodder for organising the sponsor for the day Club Partners and a big thank you to Ron Hodder for writing up the board and organising the field. Of course the big thing is who were the Gross Winners and who get their names up on the honour board and after two days the Gross winners were Jake Leonard and Jim Morgan with a score of 151 and the runner ups were Russell Duggan and John Broughton with a score of 159. The Nett winners were Kane Leonard and Jack Burnitt with a score of 134 and the runner ups were Jack Huisman and Larry Fabian with a score of 139. This has been a great start to my term as Club Captain and I look forward to the rest of the year and in the immortal words of my dear friend Tony Dymock may your balls always be straight and stay behind David Hung, until next month. Laurie Fleming - Club Captain.
