CARE COUNTRY ON COOCHIE
Care Country was recently held on Coochiemudlo Island, bringing the famous Qunadmooka Dancers to the island for a special indigenous celebration. The Care4Country event, sponsored by Redland City Council via its community grants program, brought some famous indigenous participants in Matthew Burns, Joshua Walker, artist Delvene Cockatoo Collins and the Yulu Burri Ba Dancers. The day, on Saturday August 18, was opened by Deputy Mayor Lance Hewelett and was also attended by Cr Mark Edwards. It included welcome to country, stories, weaponry, Quandamooka history, walks and talks, food, markets and a traditional smoking ceremony. It was a great day enjoyed by many.
