CLUB MACLEAY SYNTHETIC GREEN SET FOR FEBRUARY 24 OPENING

The Club Macleay synthetic green will be officially opened on Sunday February 24.

The day will involve a sit down lunch with specials guests including Member for Redlands Kim Richard MP, Mayor Karen Williams, Cr Mark Edwards, as well as the President from Gateway Bowls Association, Derek Penny plus others.

Speeches will be made after lunch and then at 2pm, we will head downstairs to the green where Kim will cut the ribbon to ‘officially open’ the green.

Funding for the project has been provided mostly by the State Government as well as Redland City Council with the club also having to make a significant contribution.

Construction of the new surface was completed just prior to Christmas.

Club chairman Barry Reid has overseen the project and said that weather and other constructions by the company involved had slowed progress prior to Christmas, but added he was ‘very pleased’ with the finished surface.

The process has seen the previous natural grass surface and surrounds completely removed and a whole new base and surrounds constructed.

Much of the old green surface was cleverly utilised to build a new entertainment area on the water side of the club.

All islanders are invited to attend the opening day event on Sunday, February 24.

• All set for the big opening of the new synthetic green at Club Macleay Kevin Craig, MP for Redlands Kim Richards, and Rod Callaghan.
