ATTENTION TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

LATEST RENEGADES ‘RED SEAT’ TO BRING ATTENTION TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

The latest seat produced by the Renegades on Macleay Island, is definitely their ‘most important’ ever.

The Renegades Men’s Shed group has been producing seats and other community infrastructure for years, all with a purpose in mind.

The Renegades are about providing an outlet for men in a great environment, and their projects are almost always for the benefit of the island community.

The latest, however, is something special.

Several months ago the group decided to bring attention to the Domestic Violence crisis that continues to grip society, including our islands.

They came up with the ‘Red Seat’ concept, part of an initiative right around the Redlands, promoted by Mayor Karen Williams, and several island businesses came on board to support the project.

The Friendly Bay Islander is contribution $500 to the project and a host of others have provided services to see the ‘Red Seat’ become and eventuality.

George Economous of Pharmacy Essentials and the medical centre gave the Renegades approval to place the seat in a prominent position, out the front of the Macleay Island Medical Centre.

Russell Island Readymix provided the concrete for the slab for the ‘Red Seat’, and Island Engineer Ray Saunders donated his services for all the engineering.

The Renegades Men’s Shed group not only provided and built the chair, but also excavated the footings and laid the concrete for the small slab.

An appropriate message board will be attached to the ‘Red Seat’ providing information about the project and contact information in relation to Domestic Violence.

The Domestic Violence Red Seat will be officially launched on site by Mayor Karen Williams, Cr Mark Edwards and MP Kim Richards on Wednesday, 2 June 2021 at 10am.
