FINAL APPROVALS FOR WEINAM PDA ROAD BUILDING AND TOONDAH AWAITING FEDERAL EIS STUDY APPROVAL
The two unique Queensland PDA areas located in the Redlands, are awaiting major final approvals before work can start on the Weinam Creek and Toondah Harbour projects.
The Weinam Creek project, the gateway to the Southern Bay Islands, is waiting for approvals and answering requests for more information from Economic Development Queensland.
A council spokesperson told The Friendly Bay Islander: “All going well, the next construction phase will be reconfiguring the road network to the ferry terminal. “However, Redland City Council will be releasing more detailed information regarding this next stage once, and if, approval is granted.
“The estimated timeframe would be towards the second half of the year, if the master plan is approved, without changes,” council has stated.
The Toondah Harbour project is in similar territory.
A highly detailed Environmental Impact Study has taken a long time to prepare for State and Federal Government approval.
It is now at the stage of submission to the Federal Government.
According to Walker Group company spokesperson, Dolan Hayes, it would be up to the Federal Government to publicly release the study for full community scrutiny before final approval.
Once that has been obtained, work would be able to finally start on the Toondah Harbour project.
The Walker Group is hoping this might be some time in 2022.
The company believes the exciting Toondah Harbour project could play a major role as an attraction in Queensland’s bid for the 2032 Olympic Games.
Toondah Harbour Project Lead Rabieh Krayem says Brisbane’s bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games presents an ‘extraordinary opportunity’ for the Redlands Coast to attract thousands of international guests to a redeveloped and world-class Toondah Harbour.
“The revitalisation of the Harbour would be perfectly timed for a 2032 Games, adding new lifestyle and recreational options while providing an attractive and modern gateway to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island),” he said.
