BAND TOOT! TOOT!

Strike up the Band! BID TO ESTABLISH ISLAND COMMUNITY BAND!

Do you play an instrument or would you like to start? Dave Wellman and Eve Newsome are really excited to announce that they have received a Regional Arts Development Fund grant to start up a new SMBI Community Concert Band this year. The idea came about because they could see the potential on the islands for a fun, inclusive musical activity for islanders who already play instruments and those who would like to start. Their slogan is ‘never too early - never too late’ to start playing music and they encourage islanders of any age to join up even if they are complete beginners. Weekly rehearsals will start in September at the Macleay Island Progress Hall. Almost every instrument can be part of the concert band such as flute; saxophone; clarinet; oboe; bassoon; trumpet; cornet; horn; trombone; euphonium; tenor horn; tuba; bass guitar; and percussion. Dave and Eve have extensive backgrounds as musicians and music educators and have been teaching in schools and universities and performing professionally with orchestras and bands over many years. Dave will conduct the band. He plays the trumpet and also conducts the Redland City Beginner Concert Band. Eve plays the oboe and the piano and has a great passion for music education and being in the zone. They are both looking forward to wonderful musical experiences with the new band. Please contact them for further details and join the new island band today! Enquiries: evenewsome@hotmail.com or 0422 695 138 Facebook: SMBI Concert band
