BETTER BUSINESS NOVEMBER

BETTER BUSINESS NOVEMBER

AVEO OPEN HOME REDLAND BAY AVEO’s Freedpm Redland Bay aged care community is holding a special OPEN HOME on Wednesday, 24th November for just one hour between 10.30am and 11.30am. It will give islanders an opportunity to see one of the best care communities just about anywhere. The address is 100 Swansea Circuit, Redland Bay, just up from Weinam Creek. Freedom Care Community in Redland Bay is where residents live independently with the peace of mind knowing support is available 24/7 from qualified professionals. You will be able to tour the community, view the private, low-maintenance units and discover all the wonderful amenities and social activities on offer, at the same time chatting the the professional team. You need to RSVP to attend by phoning 35592955. SAVE MONEY AND ERADICATE YOUR MAINLAND CAR! It’s great news for islanders who can’t afford a mainland car that Bay Islands Car Share has now been officially sanctioned to operate from an exclusive parking area on Weinam Creek. What many people fail to do is to fully calculate just how expensive it is to own and operate a vehicle on the mainland, particularly if you only use it on an infrequent basis. The purchase price, upkeep, registration, devaluation and the cost of parking if you happen to have one of the council paid parking spaces, is way more expensive than you think. You can be a member of Car Share for around $10 a month, and then you pay for the time you use the vehicle. It is a known cost that you can work into your budget, and you will be surprised how efficient and cost saving it can be. The reason why Redland City Council has endorsed Bay islands Car Share is because it has the potential to save on car parking at Weinam Creek as our islands attract more and more home owners and residents. Currently Aaron from Car Share has eight vehicles in his designated yellow-striped car spaces at Weinam Creek servicing more than 200 members (on that number it is a saving already of 192 car spaces). As the service continues to grow, the saving in car spaces will be even more spectacular! We highly recommend if you don’t use your mainland car very often, sell it and become a member of Bay Islands Car Share!

RUSSELL SHOPPING CENTRE FOR SALE The Russell Island Shopping Centre is up for auction. Owned and built by the Larkman family nearly 15 years ago, it is to go under the hammer at auction on Thursday 11th November 2021. The auction will be held in the rooms of selling agents Colliers at 11.30am at Level 2, Circle on Cavill 3184 Surfers Paradise Boulevard | Surfers Paradise, QLD 4217. The Larkmans have been central to the development and change on Russell Island for many years, previously owning Ray White Real Estate agency on the island. The shopping centre is a community hub on the island and a beacon for all. It will be interesting to see just how much interest there will be in this valuable retail asset given the current higher value climate for island real estate? WATTS UP BUSINESS AWARD RECOGNISED Radnor ‘Smiley’ Sansoni of Watts Up Solar and Electrical, based on Macleay Island, has been amazed at the reaction to the business winning the best family-owned Electrical and Solar Contracting Business Award Queensland 2021. “We were delighted to win the award, but I have been stunned by the reaction from islanders and clients since the award win was announced in the October edition of The Friendly Bay Islander. Everyone has been so nice and complimentary. It has been a wonderful achievement and a terrific boost to our solar sales and installation business,” Smiley said. Congratulations! REDLAND HOME CARE DEE SUCCESS Another success story on our islands is that of Deanna Foster, known to her friends as ‘Dee’. She started up Dee’s Cleaning Maintenance and services several years ago and it grew so quickly that about a year ago she upgraded her operations and changed the name of her business to Redlands Home Care. She still provides that excellent cleaning service, but has also moved and progressed into other areas including NDIS support, aged care services and project management. Dee has a management background, so these new directions are no surprise. It’s great to see such success for businesses located on our islands. SUPA IGA IDEAL FOR CHRISTMAS HAMS Many islanders will notice how the meat section at the Supa IGA on Russell Island is so good. And you will also notice that they are starting to stock up on Christmas hams in readiness for the Christmas season. So, if you enjoy a ham at Christmas, keep an eye out on the burgeoning supply at the Supa IGA. The meat range at Supa IGA has been increased, the quality is excellent, and the prices are super competitive, because they produce all their own meat from their own meat production facility, specifically for the Jones Group Redlands supermarkets. It’s no surprise that Supa IGA Russell Island is ready for the upcoming festive season with a fantastic range of award winning hams and accompaniments. MEN’S SHED OPPORTUNITY The Bay Island Men’s Shed on Macleay Island is holding its annual general meeting on Tuesday, December 14 at its meeting rooms at 24 Scotts Road, Macleay Island, at 9am. It would be fair to say that the facility has been under-utilised in its intended format. President David Moore has done much to get other men’s shed interest in the premises, but with little success. He is hoping that some will take advantage of the coming meeting and get involved and take the men’s shed on Macleay Island to where it needs to be. The shed itself is an excellent one with great facilities. Let’s hope some sound reasoning takes place to get all parties on the same page!
