CENSUS INFORMATION

ISLAND HOUSEHOLDS TO RECEIVE CENSUS INFORMATION IN COMING DAYS FOR AUGUST 10 DEADLINE

Island households will receive in the coming days a knock on their door.

This will be an island field officer calling to inform you about the census and to give you a form to fill out.

That’s because Australia’s next national Census will be held on Tuesday, 10 August, 2021.

Field managers and field officers have been appointed for Russell Island only and another for Macleay, Karragarra and Lamb Islands.

Similar field managers and field officers have been appointed for Coochiemudlo and North Stradbroke (Minjeeribah) Islands.

Held every five years, the Census is a snapshot of who we are and tells the story of how we are changing.

The Census counts each household and person in Australia on Census night and provides a picture of the economic, social, and cultural make up of Australia.

This year, people can start their Census as soon as they get their instructions, if they know where they’ll be on Census night. Australians can complete their Census online, by paper, or with help from the Census people..

Most households will receive instructions via a posted letter that explains what to do and how to complete the Census online in early August. It will have a Census number and temporary password, this means you don’t have to wait and complete the Census form on a single night.

This flexibility will make it more convenient for people to complete. The online form opens on 28 July and instruction letters are being mailed out on 29 July.

Some houses will receive a paper form to fill out, and in this situation we’ll supply a reply-paid envelope for its return. Around 75 per cent of forms are expected to be completed online, an increase from 63 per cent in 2016.

Paper forms will be delivered to households in areas where completing online is less likely to be preferred or possible, for example due to poor internet connection.

  • All the staff will be following COVID-19 guidelines, so expect a mask when opening your front door.
