The MIAC Art Gallery is now located at the Macleay Island Shopping complex in Southsea Terrace, behind the Macleay Island Post Office. Volunteers have been hard at it for a couple of weeks setting up the area for the temporary gallery which will be utilised for some time whilst the new gallery is being built. • STORYTELLERS FESTIVAL ON LAMB ISLAND Island Storytellers biennial festival created by Susan Ward and Dr. Deb Jordan from Lamb Island is being held from Saturday, September 30 until Sunday, October 8. The week-long event is an entertaining and educational festival that invites the Quandamooka/Bay Islands community to celebrate storytelling and our archipelago’s natural beauty, in community gardens, historical buildings and on boats in the bay. • RUSSELL ISLAND COMMUNITY ARTS (RICArts) – A community-based organisation offering Art, Pottery, Ukulele, Mosaic and Craft sessions from Monday to Friday with gallery open on weekends too. All welcome! Come along and see what we have to offer you. While you are there, grab and coffee from Rosie’s, Island Beans Coffee Cart or you might be lucky and snag a bite from Sam’s, The Lucky Rabbit food van. The opening event and awards presentation was a huge success and very special thanks go to all our sponsors including The Friendly Bay Islander, Rosie’s Island Beans Russell Island, Shore Studio Cleveland, Canaipa Nursery Russell Island, Shane Rendalls’ Tara on Canaipa, Moreton Bay Tea, Russell Island Music School, Tribal Moon Ceremonial Grade Cacao, Kim Richards MP Member for Redlands, Sam’s The Lucky Rabbit. A big thanks also to our judges Maria Cleary, Vicki Whalan, Sara Zastara and Hilary Wakeling who had a mammoth task in reviewing entries which ultimately decided the winners. It was a daunting task for them and they glided through with flying colours. Congratulations go to all the artists who entered. As usual there was a wide range of wonderful entries showcasing the brilliant talent of all the artists. A full list of winners will be included in the next issue. • SMBI Garden Competition 2023 Awards Event will again be hosted at The Farm, Arthouse & Gallery on Saturday 7 October at 4pm with winners being announced by Damien & Andre`. Entry forms now available from The Farm, Arthouse & Gallery, Russell Island and other SMBI venues and due back by 15th September to organise judging from 22ne September. • The RedShed Studio's PilatesYoga and Qigong are in their 8th year of encouraging community fitness with fun laughter and expertise. Men’s A Grade winner was Terry Fry with 62 net and the runner-up was John Broughton with 65 net. The B Grade winner was Peter Bennett with 65 net and the runner-up was Ralph Robertson with 66 net. Wednesday 23rd August the winners of the 2 Ball multiplyer stableford game were Bill Fletcher and Eddie Wright with 85 net and the runners-up were Pat and Kev Rogers with 75 net. Thursday 24th August Tony Flanagan sponsored a day when his friends from Bulimba Golf Club came and we played a 3 person Ambrose game and the winners were Julie and Lee Petersen and Barry Newman and the runners-up were Barb Garvey, Peggy Pickavance and Rosie Sambell. Saturday 26th August the men’s A Grade winner was Les Dower with a great score of 41 points and the runner-up was Greg Cain with 39 points. B Grade winner was Mark Strachan with an amazing 45 points and the runner-up was Tim Burnitt with 36 points. The ladies winner was Pat Rogers with 42 points and runner-up was Jo McAntee with 29 points. Wednesday 30th August men’s A Grade winner was Michael Treay with 42 points and the runner-up was David Kendall with 38 points. B Grade winner was Jac Craig with 43 points and the runner-up was Darrel Dugdale with 41 points. The ladies winner was Jo McAntee with 39 points and the runner-up was Pat Rogers with 37 points. Saturday 2nd September were the men’s monthly medal games and the overall and C Grade winner was Shannon Jones with 63 net and the runner-up was Darrel Dugdale with 68 net. A Grade winner was Larry Fabian with 65 net and the runner-up was Kane Leonard with 66 net. B Grade winner was Wayne Burnitt with 67 net and the runner-up was Marco Mohler with 68 net. Wednesday 6th September B Grade men’s stableford winner was John Francom with 37 points and the runner-up was Stu Braddy with 36 points, the men’s A Grade winner was Larry Fabian with 39 points and the runner-up was John Asher with 36 points. The ladies winner was Pat Rogers with 38 points and the runner-up was Gail Spann with 33 points. Saturday 9th September 3 person Ambrose winners were the Don Davidson, John Asher and Gail Waldorff with 50.833 and the runners-up were Todd Smart, Bradley Makoare Snr and Tevor Jamieson with 51.167. Wednesday 13th September Men’s A Grade winner of the Bisque Par game was Nigel McLachlan with +4 net on a count-back from Baz Kekesi. B Grade winner was Rob Corbett with +6 and the runner-up was David Kendall with +4. The ladies winner was Peggy Pickavance with +7 and the runner-up Carrol Alfonso +6. Saturday 16th September men’s A grade winner was Larry Fabian with 39 points and the runner-up was Peter Turner with 37 points, B grade winner was Theo Kamps with 37 points on a count-back from Trevor Jamieson. The ladies winner was Rosie Sambell with 34 points and the runner-up was Carrol Alfonso with 33 points.
