MACLEAY ISLAND ‘ANZAC POEM’ GIRL TO REPRESENT QUEENSLAND AT IN-LINE HOCKEY AUSTRALIAN TITLES
Remember young Macleay Island school student Daisy Gemzik?
She came to our attention a couple of years ago when she was asked to recite a poem she wrote about Anzac Day at the Macleay Island Anzac service last year.
Her poem was titled ‘We Remember You, the words were a lovely tribute to the thousands of fallen Australians in war from someone so young.
Back then, Daisy was the school captain at Macleay Island State School.
Today, she is in Year 7 at Chisholm Catholic School on the mainland.
Her dad, Mike Gemzik, recently contacted The Friendly Bay Islander to tell us that Daisy has some other significant attributes.
She happens to be a more than handy inline skater and has been playing inline hockey for the Logan Rangers for the past four years.
Daisy is more than handy at the sport and the skill of skating on roller blades.
So much so she has recently been selected to represent Queensland in her age group and the in-line hockey Australian Championships.
Teams from all over Australia will be playing more than 150 games at the championships, and Queensland are one of the favourites.
In-line hockey is super fast and definitely exciting.
The whole family of mum and dad Jessie and Mike and sister and brother Pepper and Archer hope to be at the championships cheering for Daisy and Queensland!
Yeaaay!
