ELECTION ENDORSEMENTS

MARK EDWARDS GOES OUT WITH A ‘BANG’ AND ENDORSES PRO ISLAND CANDIDATES LAMING AND RENDALLS

Retiring Division 5 Councillor Mark Edwards has ‘spiced up’ the forthcoming March 16 Local Government election for Redland City Council by endorsing key  candidates.

In his ‘final’ monthly column as a Councillor in your Friendly Bay Islander, Cr Edwards has explained some of the difficulties in representing the islands, despite 12 years ‘of the most productive time for the islands in terms of infrastructure and development.’.

“It is a tough role and they will need to harden up to the “haters” and focus on delivering for the islands.

“I have been contacted by many residents who have asked me to run again but the time has come for a new focus.

“I said a long time ago that I don’t have any ‘horse’ in this race but I have decided to share with you who I believe should be considered for your vote and why.

“There is a team running with Mayoral candidate Jos Mitchell and part of that team are some current Councillors who, in my opinion, are negative towards the islands and, one in particular, is hostile.

“So if this Team has control of the next Council then I fear for our islands.

“One of our Division 5 candidates is part of that team, so I would recommend voting for Shane Rendalls as he is independent.

“For Mayor, and this will come as a surprise for many, but I support Andrew Lamming. “Despite some faults, like we all have, Andrew has a good record for delivering in his Federal role and from my conversations with Andrew, he will support the islands and ongoing funding.

“So I put practicality first and want the best outcome for our islands community.

“Thank you and farewell from Council,” Cr Edwards says in his final sentence.

His comments will shake up this forthcoming election, and certainly make it interesting.
