FAMILY FUN, FOOD and GAMES AT SANDY BEACH TO CELEBRATE AUSTRALIA DAY 2021

OLYMPIAN MARA STRANSKY TO ATTEND!

It will possibly be the best ever Australia Day festivities on the islands ever with BIMSARA and the Russell Island Sports Fishing Club combining for a massive Australia Day 2021 celebration.

The event this year will be held at Sandy Beach at the southern end of Russell Island.

BIMSARA is the Bay Islands Multi Sports and Recreation Association and it is joining with one of its key members, the Russell Island Sports Fishing Club, to conduct the massive event on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

People and visitors from all the islands are invited to this special Australia Day event.

It will be a big day of fun and activities for all the family, including Market Stalls.

The fishing club will be running a BBQ with a wet bar also available.

There will be plenty of fun and games and some music too, and what about those market stalls!

Russell Island girl Mara Stransky, a member of the Australian Olympic team for the Tokyo Olympics later in 2021, will also be attending.

There will be an auction and other fund-raising efforts to help get Mara to the Olympic Games.

A highlight of the day will be the announcement of the Australia Day awards specifically for the Bay Islands sponsored by Cr Mark Edwards and The Friendly Bay Islander.

There are three categories to be recognised:

• Bay Islander of the Year

• Senior Bay Islander of the Year (60 years and over)

• Young Bay Islander of the Year (16 to 30 years)

Families and children will have lots to entertain them with the Russell Island Volunteer Fire Brigade attending to give children a fun water spray from time to time.

There will be some fun games including a mullet throwing competition, toad races, a tug of war and a thong-throwing competition.
