Queensland Government provides $15 million for Weinam Creek ferry terminal carpark

  • The Miles Government will contribute $15 million to the delivery of the planned multi-level car park at the Weinam Creek ferry terminal.

  • The multi-level car park will service the commercial precinct of the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area and the residents and visitors to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, including Macleay, Lamb, Karragarra and Russell islands.

  • Funding will provide greater certainty to the community for the delivery of a multi-level car park.

The Miles Government will provide $15 million in funding to contribute to the delivery of the planned multi-level car park at the Weinam Creek ferry terminal.

The multi-level car park will service the future Weinam Creek Priority Development Area (PDA) commercial precinct and the residents and visitors to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, including Macleay, Lamb, Karragarra and Russell islands.

The funding will support the progress of the Weinam Creek PDA redevelopment project, which is managed by Redland Investment Corporation, on behalf of Redland City Council.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish said at the announcement: “I am pleased to announce our commitment of $15 million towards the delivery of the planned multi-level car park, which will assist in ensuring greater confidence in the delivery of the project.

“This funding for the Weinam Creek ferry terminal carpark will provide greater certainty to the communities on the bayside and on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.

“This government knows the economic importance and employment opportunities that the Weinam Creek PDA offers Redland City, and the broader South East Queensland region.

“We also acknowledge the need to support the future needs of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands' community, and we hope this funding brings forward opportunities for the region.”

Member for Redlands Kim Richards MP:  “I’m proud to have advocated strongly to secure this significant funding for the Weinam Creek Multi-Storey Carpark.

“I know how important this project is for my Southern Moreton Bay Island community and the locals that travel between our beautiful islands and the mainland.

“This funding will provide confidence that we are supporting Redland City Council to deliver key infrastructure for locals and visitors to our islands and revitalise our waterfront.

“This funding builds on our commitment to the Redlands where we’ve delivered 4 new ferry terminals for our Southern Moreton Bay Islands, new Kitty Cat Ambulance Ferry and our incredible new satellite hospital.

“With our Miles Government I will continue to support our community and deliver

Redlands City Council Mayor-elect Jos Mitchell: “The Weinam Creek development is an important opportunity to meet long-term needs of the Southern Moreton Bay Island community.  This funding greatly assists the progression of that outcome.

“I’m looking forward to working further with the state government as this project progresses.”
