HUGE STORMS HIT ISLANDS AND CUT POWER - AGAIN!
A broad band of storms swept across south-east Queensland, and particularly the Bay Islands on Sunday, October 25.
Not only did the storms cut power to just over 100,000 Energex customers and totally cut power to the islands of Macleay, Russell and Lamb.
There were destructive winds, lightning and heavy rain affected wide areas of the SE towards the coast.
High winds and flying debris brought down 207 powerlines across the south-east. Power lines were also brought down in the Bay Islands of Russell, Lamb and Macleay islands.
Damage to the network was so significant that some customers in Redland Bay, Mt Crosby, the Bay Islands and surrounding areas, did not have power restored for several hours. On the islands the power was out from about 6pm top 9.30 pm.
The power cut, unfortunately, coincided with the NRL Grand Final. In excess of 80,000 lightning strikes were recorded across the region.
It was the second significant power break in recent months.
• A power pole completely snapped off by the violent storms.
