EXTENSIVE SMB ISLAND ROADWORKS MAKING PROGRESS TO EVENTUAL COMPLETE SEALING

Extensive sealing of island roads is continuing at an increased rate thanks to Redland City council’s Green Seal program.

$3 million has been allocated to island road sealing in the 20-24-25 council budget, following on from $2 million last financial year.

More than 40 roads will have been upgraded to ‘green seal’ standard over the two financial years, 2023-24 and 2024-25.

[‘Green Seal’ is applying two layers of bitumen and gravel to existing established island gravel roads with minimum road preparation at a cost approx 7 times cheaper than mainland road construction]

Redland City Council completed green sealing on 12 roads in the 2023-24 financial year.

 Roads upgraded on Russell Island were:

• The Boulevard (Crescent Drive to Lions Park)

• Crescent Drive (Paradise Avenue to the end)

• Catamaran Street (Sabot Street to 9 Catamaran Street)

• Trimaran Street (Titala Street to 14 Trimaran Street)

• Aranda Street (Titala Street to 16 Aranda Street)

• Gunsynd Street (Berborough Street to 16 Gunsynd Street)

 Roads upgraded on Macleay Island were:

• Ilya Street (Kate Street to 28 Beelong Street)

• Kardinia Street (Ilya Street to 27 Kardinia Street)

• Peter Court

• Jordan Street (Conran Street to 9 Jordan Street)

• Frenchem Terrace (High Central to 25 Frenchem Terrace)

• Coran Street

Work on the outstanding four jobs on Macleay Island will be completed by December 2024, conditions permitting:

• Donald Street

• Barry Street (Western Road to Donald Street)

• Con Street (Western Road  to 6 Con Street)

• Columbia Street (Western Road  to Eagle Street)

Redland City Council has 21 roads planned to be green sealed in the 2024-25 financial year, conditions permitting -
