SPECIAL ISLAND SPRING FESTIVAL TO HERALD ISLAND GARDENS AND ART
A special new festival is to be held on Russell Island in October, called It’s Spring!
It’s brainchild of island arts stalwart Bob Turner and the RICARTS group.
And it is to be held over three days based around the weekend of October 8, 9 and 10.
Bob Turner is no stranger to running community events, joining with Steve Morgan to run the three-island events held several years ago.
It’s Spring, however, will be all about highlighting the very best of our islands at an important time of the year.
It will also be a great follow-on from the island Lantern Festival to be held at the end of June.
There will be a number of garden and art awards attached to this inaugural event.
Its Spring encourages islanders to get involved with gardening and art.
Prizes on offer will include:
• Best Home Garden
• Best Veggie Garden
• Best Springtime Art
• Best Pot Plant
• Best Community Garden Sculpture
There will be a minimal $10 entry fee for each of the prize sections and Bob Turner hopes islanders will get behind this new festival, It’s Spring!
“It’s about being a proud islander.
“People who work at their home gardens, whether it is flowers or vegetables, have a pride in their home and the place where they live.
“Not only that, but gardening increases the value of everybody’s lives.
“We are hoping this festival encourages even more gardening and art around our islands,” he told The Friendly Bay Islander.
