LADIES OF LAMB

THREE IMPRESSIVE WOMAN MAKING A LAMB ISLAND DIFFERENCE!

There are a small group of talented ladies on Lamb Island, definitely making a difference.

The three ladies, have or are heading up island organisations that are having a positive influence on island life.

• Janet Cannon currently is president of the Lamb Island Ratepayers Association (LIRA);

• Trish Bougourd is the relatively new president of the Lamb Recreation Club;

• Kim Ward is the former president of the Lamb Recreation Club who now is establishing an online communications site for Lamb Islanders lambulletin@gmail.com

All three have impressive working histories and are bringing a new level of professionalism to the island organisations.

Janet Cannon has been president of LIRA for some time now and has been busy linking the organisation to the entire community by way of joining in with island groups and keeping all well informed, particularly via her column each month on the Lamb Page in The Friendly Bay Islander.

Janet has a considerable background.

She is a former education professional, not as a teacher, but in the area of education planning and administration.

She has particular experience in grant education and adult education.

She lists LIRA’s current major project is to develop nature parks on Lamb Island utilising Redland City Council vacant blocks of land.

“Rather that have overgrown blocks of land around the island, we can turn them into small and lovely nature reserves,” Janet told The Friendly Bay Islander.

Trish Bougourd also has an impressive working background.

She took over as president of the Lamb Recreation Club from another impressive Lamb Island woman, Kim Ward, last October.

Trish orginally hails for the UK 25 years ago (Hampshire to be precise).

In England she was an operations manager for a major company, and was involved as a senior manager in the hospitality industry.

For some years in Australia, Trish owned and ran her own coffee shop on the Sunshine Coast as well as

working in workers compensation.

At the Lamb Recreation Club she is intent on continuing on the patch started by Kim Ward, and wants as many Lamb Islanders to get involved with the club as possible.

“It is a community club and we want more of the community to get involved,” Trish said.

Kim Ward is already well known to us and brought about a fresh change at the island club before handing over to Trish in August.

She works part time from home on Lamb Island for a major Brisbane kitchen manufacturer, Kitchen Discount House.  That is no surprise as she and her husband owned a kitchen manufacturing business in New Zealand for 24 years.

Kim was very involved in her local community in Auckland for over 20 years, so much so that she was awarded a Queen’s Service Medal (same as our OAM) in 2021 by the NZ Governor General for services to the community.

Since retiring from the Club, Kim has started up a community email database which sends useful information to locals, and volunteers wherever she can.

Janet, Trish and Kim are not the only talented women on Lamb Island, but they are currently leading the way with others involved with Bushcare, Community Gardens and the Volunteer Fire Brigade.

All contributing to a busy and beautiful Lamb Island lifestyle!
