MACLEAY FIRE BRIGADE

MACLEAY FIRE BRIGADE FIRE FIGHTERS RECEIVE MAJOR AWARDS Two Macleay Island volunteer fire fighters received major awards at the recent annual general meeting of the organisation. The awards were presented to Guy Hickey, (1st Officer) and Tim Richardson by Area Director Mark Saunders. Unfortunately, Guy was unable to attend and the award was accepted by 2nd Officer, Alene Ivey, in Guy’s absence. Since joining the Brigade in 2009, Guy has completed FMS, FAS, Crew Leader and 1st Officer training. He has qualifications in Road Crash Rescue, 16 Hour AIIMS, Chainsaw, Electrical Safety, Step In Leadership, Hazmat Controller Level 1 Incident, Cert IV Training & Assessment . He was Chairman of the Management Committee for several years, as well as 2nd Officer, before taking over from Ross McBride as 1st Officer in 2017. Guy Hickey received the 10 year QFAS medal for ethical and diligent service in 2021 and at this year’s AGM, Mark Saunders presented him with the National Medal and Ribbon Bar for his service in the RAAF and RFS, a combined total of 20 years. Tim Richardson joined the Macleay Island Brigade in 2010. He has completed FMS, FAS, chainsaw, electrical safety and Road Crash Rescue. Tim has gone on deployment several times and at the AGM, Mark Saunders presented him with a Commissioner’s Commendation for his work during the 2019 floods in Townsville.
