ANOTHER MAJOR TOURISM PROJECT PLANNED FOR RUSSELL ISLAND A second major tourism resort is planned for Russell Island. Plans have already been completed for submission to council for the marina resort on land adjacent to the Russell Island jetty foreshore. It is the second resort plan to evolve for Russell Island in recent months. Another eco resort is planned on a 14 hectare site on a peninsula located at the end of Tenanne St, Russell Island. The location of the latest marina resort is on waterfront land alongside the BITS terminal area, overlooking an extensive waterway. The man behind the project is Allan Kendall. A major entrepreneur, he recently has purchased the unique Russell Island site and is well down the road of planning and seeking the relevant approvals. And if the resort becomes a reality, it will come with some major ‘add-ons’ including a first class marina and jetty, boat hire, houseboat, kayak and jet ski hire. It would also mean a manufacturing plant to later be developed to build five-star houseboats on Russell Island. The impact on island jobs could be substantial. Allan Kendall is most recently from the Gold Coast, but has now located himself in a house on his Russell Island site. The plans he has for the site are substantial, including a major waterfront view restaurant overlooking the site offering extensive views. An interim site plan for the marina resort includes: • Existing manager’s residence; • Food and Drink and Deck Seating • Existing workshed • Amenities block • Car Parking • Community Kayak Club • Glamping Sites (8) • Marina jetty and wharf area • Jetty and Boat Hire, houseboat, kayak and jet ski hire • Pump Out and Fuel sales • Swimming Pool. Allan Kendall already has a huge houseboat that will brought to the site soon and will be available for immediate hire. He will proceed with the appropriate applications to build the resort and to build in the smaller houseboats in the existing work shed on site.
