2024 AUSTRALIA DAY BAY ISLANDER OF THE YEAR AWARDS Islanders should submit names now for the Australia Day Bay Islander of the Year Awards 2024. The awards are held each year on Australia Day with several categories to be awarded. They are sponsored by The Friendly Bay Islander/Radio FBI and Division 5 Redland City Councillor Mark Edwards. There are three categories to be recognised: • Bay Islander of the Year • Senior Bay Islander of the Year (60 years and over) • Young Bay Islander of the Year (16 to 30 years) The online survey for nominations is available from The Friendly Bay Islander website thefriendlybayislander.com OR NOMINATE NOW . CLICK HERE . The awards are for those Bay Islanders who best show community spirit and involvement. The awards are not judged on the number of entries received per person. A panel makes the selection on the basis of merit. Australia Day 2024 on Friday, January 26 will see Cr Mark Edwards, The Friendly Bay Islander, BIMSARA and Running Wild and the Island Auto Club combine to offer a fantastic and free community event to be held at the Sports Field precinct on Russell Island, adjacent to the Resilience Centre and tennis courts. BIMSARA PLANNING BIG AUSTRALIA DAY! The new BIMSARA committee has been busy establishing itself, and following our success at the LUNA festival, we are now planning for Australia Day 2024. BIMSARA held a temporary replacement for the annual LUMI festival, called LUNA. It was a combination of a lantern festival, Halloween, and Family Fun Day. The event was very successful, with many children happily receiving gifts of lanterns, water, bags of lollies, and Free Face Painting. BIMSARA would like to thank Running Wild for their wonderful volunteers, Dee Roberts of Robert Street Market, Sealink, J&R Earthmoving and Tree Specialists, Coza Lita, 4 Shades of Grey and Coral Chorale for their support. BIMSARA and other Bay Islands Clubs are proud to present The Bay Islands Family Fun Day to be held on Australia Day 24. There will be food, markets, entertainment and lots of family fun! Volunteers are needed to fill a variety of positions, and groups, classes, and clubs are invited to participate in hosting this island extravaganza. Redland City Council proudly sponsors the Australia Day event.
