SATELLITE HOSPITAL OPENS

NOW OPEN WEINAM CREEK SATELLITE HOSPITAL OPENS TO THE PUBLIC The Weinam Creek Satellite Hospital is now open! The hospital has opened its doors to the public after the recent public open day and the official opening. The Open Day was held on Saturday, August 19, with more than 300 people turning up to view the new-style hospital facility. More than 200 ‘booked in’ to be taken on a detailed tour of the new Satellite Hospital. Many islanders attended and participated in the tours. This was followed a few days later by the ‘official opening’. This was held on Monday the 21st of August and was performed by Queensland Minister for Health the Hon Shannon Fentiman, assisted by Member for Redlands, Kim Richards. Guests and all the staff of the exciting new hospital concept were also on hand for the opening, which took place just four days before the hospital opened its doors to patients on Friday the 25th August. The minister told the gathering that the Satellite Hospital was a ‘new concept’ for Queensland Health. The new Satellite Hospital is a day visit medical facility only. It is a clever concept by the Queensland State Government to take the pressure ‘off’ existing hospital emergency services. The hospital includes a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic which will be open to patients seven days a week from 8am until 10pm. Appointments with Queensland Health clinicians will be available in consult and treatment rooms for services including neurology, cardiology, older persons care, wound care, musculoskeletal, allied health, and mental health services. The Redlands Satellite Hospital will provide a range of convenient specialist services including chemotherapy and kidney dialysis treatment. The Redlands Satellite Hospital, is located at Meissner Street, Redland Bay, and is within the Weinam Creek PDA area.
