SPECIAL GOLF THRILL

SPECIAL GOLF THRILL WHEN KANE MEETS BRITISH OPEN CHAMPION, CAM SMITH Young Macleay island golfer Kane Leonard received the thrill of a lifetime when he got to meet Australian golfer and 2022 British Open champion, Cameron Smith. Kane was one of a group of Bay Islands Golf Club golfers who attended the Australian PGA event held in late November. Kane got to meet one of the world’s best golfers when the champion was told that Kane is to represent Australia at the Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Berlin, Germany, in June 2023. It was an even bigger thrill when young Kane was photographed with the Aussie champion. There was some irony to the photo shoot with Cam Smith around 5ft 9” and Kane standing at an impressive 6’4”. They agreed to kneel for the photo! Attending the PGA was a thrill for the island group as they got to see Cam Smith win the title, after an absolutely massive year for the Australian golfer ‘with a mullet’. To get selected for Berlin, Kane finished well ahead of the field in the Australian selection event held over four days of 18-hole competition in Hobart.
