STORYTELLERS! FESTIVAL ON LAMB ISLAND SET FOR FIRST WEEK IN OCTOBER Island Storytellers is happening again this year! The biennial festival created by Susan Ward and Dr. Deb Jordan from Lamb Island is being held from Saturday, September 30 until Sunday, October 8 The week-long event is an entertaining and educational festival that invites the Quandamooka/Bay Islands community to celebrate storytelling and our archipelago’s natural beauty, in community gardens, historical buildings and on boats in the bay. Bring the kids to Lamb Island for Picnic Storytime with the Redland City Library - featuring local children’s author Sheryl Marks, join our nature bathing haiku workshop, or come and create an Opera in an afternoon with Dr. Anna Reid, Director of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Authors appearing at the festival this year include Anita Heiss, Melissa Lucashenko, Natalie Sprite, Mel Archer, Michelle Upton, Mirandi Riwoe, Debra Dank, Troy White, Brian Falkland, Melanie Myers, Dr. Karen Thurecht and Avril Quaill. Events on the Bay include an overnight indigenous stargazing adventure with Astronomer Dr. Duane Hamacher on the sailing ship South Passage, and a luncheon cruise on the MV Lady Brisbane. In addition to the ever popular Floating Book Club, Teenage Speedboat Book Club is happening on the new Coast Guard boat Talbot. The beautiful Lady Caroline from BICS is also part of the festival. The last festival was great fun, well attended and lively. This year Island Storytellers is expanding throughout the bay islands with events presented by Russell Island’s Writers on Water and the Inspirational Writer’s Group from Macleay Island. Island Storytellers aims to encourage, inspire and build solid readers from all walks of life with our entertaining and thought provoking program, accessible to all ages and abilities.
