• LOVE OUR ISLANDS’ CHILDREN’S ART EXHIBITION Saturday and Sunday September 17 AND 18 - A special art event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18. It is an invitation to attend the ‘Love Our Islands’ children’s art exhibition to be held at the Macleay Island Community Centre from 12 noon to 4pm on both days. To encourage island school children to get involved in art, MIAC’s Beatrice Sheehan has been running special art workshops in recent weeks, one held at Russell Island State School and the other at Macleay Island State School. The resulting art sheets created by the school children, will be exhibited at the Macleay Island Community Hall event as a full exhibition. On the opening day on Saturday, September 17, there will be a number of other events happenings including the children’s choir from Macleay Island State School will also be singing at 1pm. Parents from both schools, as well as the island communities are encouraged to attend this special exhibition to validate the children’s creative efforts. The entire exercise has been supported by the Queensland Government, Redlands Coast and Redland City Council as well as the Macleay Island Arts Complex Inc.




• MIAC BY THE BAY EXHIBITION opening on Saturday 24th September at 1.00pm. This is one of the Macleay Island Arts Complex major annual events and all islanders are invited to attend.



• ART MY WORD - Macleay Island Library’s Art My Word festival is again being held on the long weekend of September/ early October. As part of this festival the library are holding Art My Story featuring three guest speakers. Hosted by Macleay Island Library on Sunday 2nd October commencing at 9.30am. The venue will be the deck at the Macleay Island Progress Association Hall. This event is part of the Art My Word long weekend festival. Authors Hendrick Gout, Joanna Hackett and Natalie Sprite will talk about their books, their writing and other topics. Do not miss this free community event, with bubbles and nibbles available for purchase. Seating is limited, so please reserve your spot by contacting the library on 34094243, library@mpa.org.au or visit the library in person. ( Mon, Tues, Thurs 9 – 4, Fri, Sat 9 – 12 ) • RUSSELL ISLAND COMMUNITY ARTS (RICArts) – A community-based organisation offering Art, Pottery, Ukulele, Sewing, Mosaic and Craft sessions from Monday to Friday 9.30am - 12.30pm. Canaipa Connections is a collective of artists each of whom has some connection with Canaipa (Russell Island) and has taken part in regular artists retreats on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). The works in the exhibition have been developed at or inspired by the artist retreats.

All welcome to the opening evening from 5.30pm. BYO drinks and a plate of nibbles to share. • Robyn Joargenson’s Exhibition commences at The Farm, Arthouse & Gallery on Friday 18 November through to 30 November and promises to be a very interesting mix of 2D and 3D art. • RICArts will be rounding out the year with our final Members’ Exhibition from 2 December through till 8 January 2023. This exhibition includes members’ artworks in all forms and incorporates our popular $50 and under sale. Keep this one in mind for your wonderful local Christmas gifts. • ALKATRAZARTZ Island artist and tattooist Darren Goleby has been busy with some local artworks. Darren has a lovely gallery setting in Heron Street, Macleay Island, and his works are also on display at the regular Lions Markets that are held monthly on Macleay Island.
