OFFICIAL OPENING NEW $2MILLION MIAC GALLERY
The official opening of the Macleay Island Arts Complex Inc super new $2 million gallery is to be held on Saturday 7th June from 4pm - 7pm This will be a semi-formal attire event and it comes with much anticipation. There will be welcome speeches and an official opening. Unfortunately tickets for the opening have already sold out. For those who miss the opening, you can turn up the next day on Sunday June 8 from 10am to 3pm when the new complex will be open to the public. From then on, the new gallery complex will be open from Monday to Sunday 10am to 3pm.
SUNRISE MARKETS START SUNDAY, JUNE 22
The Sunrise Markets are coming to The Farm area on Russell Island. They are the brainchild of the very enthusiastic Bob Turner and they will start one Sunday June 22. For starters, the markets will then be held on the 3rd Sunday of each month. However, Bob is hopeful the Sunrise Markets will eventually become a weekly event. “I think the island needs something that is more consistent and continuous,” he said. These markets are a bit special because there are absolutely now fees involved if you want to sell or display anything and everything. There is going to be food and music and lots more. Rosie’s Coffee Cart will be there as well. Bob invites anyone and everyone to come along as a stall holder or to come and buy and sell. The Farm is at the end of Robert Street on Russell Island.
ARTY PARTY FOR RECYCLE REPURPOSE
An Arty Party is to be held in association with the Bob Turner inspired The Art of Recycle Repurpose event.
It is when the announcements of the winners of the very clever art event will be announced. It is to be held at The Farm RICARTS Art Gallery on Friday June 13 starting at 6pm. The categories are: • Mainly Timber • Mainly Metal • Mainly stone/clay • School 6-17 y.o. • Best Group Effort (2 or more All categories will have a prize of $100 each The prizes will be selected by Public Choice votes. There can only be one win by any artist.
RUSSELL ISLAND COMMUNITY ARTS (RICarts)- a COMUNITY BASED ORGANISATION offering Art, Sewing and Craft, Pottery, Ukulele, Wheel Throwing and Mosaics from Monday to Saturday. Gallery is open on weekend as needed. All welcome! COME ALONG TO SEE WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU. While you are here, grab a coffee from ROSIE’S, Island Beans Coffee Cart-Recommended by Restaurant Guru for the 4th Year in a row!

Ricarts Repurpose, Reuse Competition. Opening on the 29 May. You will not see another exhibition quite like this one! Hugh thanks go to “Marleys Place” Russell Island for sponsoring the prize money for this event.
Upcoming Exhibitions: Marion and Malous joint exhibition of pottery and Painting. Demos will be conducted on the weekends. Will run from 26 June 2025 until 15 July 2025. Flyer sent out soon.
Sue Goodwin is conducting WHEEL THROWING WORKSHOPS on Saturday afternoons from 1pm till 4pm. Bookings are essential as numbers are limited. Cost is $35 for lesson and availability to buy clay for use.
RICarts Water Colour classes with Marion Hughes are held on Wednesday afternoons from 1pm until 3pm. Booking is essential. Cost is $40 for lesson.
RICArts Weaving workshops with Tricia Dobson is to be held on the 25 May. Cost is $40.
By the way, Kinga Rypinska’s art exhibition has been extended for a further week.
