THE TIDE FESTIVAL!

GET READY FOR THE TIDE FESTIVAL! The new TIDE: Redlands Coast Islands Festival, celebrates creativity, sustainability and community across all the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, Coochiemudlo and Minjerribah | North Stradbroke Island. Commencing on Friday 23rd September and running through to Monday 3rd of October. TIDE’s signature event is the much loved and renowned Karragarra Sea Market that will take place on Sunday 25th of September. “Behind the scenes we’ve been busy working on a number of exciting events and projects for TIDE since we postponed last year’s Redlands Coast Islands Festival and the Karragarra Sea Market. “I can’t wait to share the full program with you all. I see TIDE as a great opportunity for all the island communities to come together and celebrate everything that make us unique,” states Tide festival director, Jeremy Staples. “The 2022 Karragarra Sea Market will mark its 25th anniversary, making it the perfect opportunity to showcase island-based makers, groups and stall holders. “It’s set to be the biggest market to date with an expected one hundred stalls, two performance stages, two guest speaker spaces and a dedicated workshop zone along with a special children’s and family area. “This year will also see the widest range of food stalls”, said Karragarra Sea Market Coordinator Shirley Lindsay. Art my Word is just one of the exciting events within the TIDE program. Art my Word is a fundraiser for the community library on Macleay Island, which is operated solely by volunteers and relays on donations to run. This exhibition supports literacy and creativity in our community. Artists are challenged to create a new piece of art based on a random lucky dip book, no longer in circulation from the library. The opening for Art my Word Friday September 30 at the Macleay Progress Hall and run until the 3rd October. The Canaipa Mudlines art and environment project will be showcasing a number of past and new works at RICarts with the official opening taking place on Saturday 24 September. The Canaipa Mudlines artists will also delivery an exclusive workshop within the exhibition space on Tuesday 27 September. Celebrated Quandamooka Artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins will deliver a very special workshop that is bound to book out quickly in her new studio and shop space on Minjerribah | North Stradbroke Island. Coochiemudlo are embracing Tide and creating a full days’ worth of events on Sunday the 2nd of October. Events will include an island experience tour, eco print making as well as talks and demonstrations covering topics from affordable wicking beds to permaculture examples featuring swales, food forest and bees. Plus, a number of creative and sustainable events and activities. “Opening night celebrations on Macleay Island are going to be a lot of fun. We’re aiming to create a street party style vibe and working with the business between the two halls to stay open later into the night and host special events on Friday 23rd of September. “We’ve got the Progress Hall to the Community hall booked to host opening night events. Events will include a Green Thumb Gathering that will incorporate the new SMBI Gardening Competition awards ceremony and the Community Hall will be host to a musical showcase event that will see performers from all the islands being represented. It’s set to be an unforgettable evening of creativity and music from our islands,” said Jeremy Staples. Shirley Lindsay stated,” We’re looking forward to seeing the markets back on Karra. It’s been three years without them and there are many new residents who are yet to experience our beautiful sea side markets. “It is held by the foreshore and offers everyone an opportunity to experience a great market and the beach all in one place. “The stall holder’s application forms will be available on our website shortly; our focus is to support and showcase our island stall holders, but stalls will still book out quickly. It will be best to book, sooner rather than later”. If you’re interested in putting on an event during the festival, please get in touch with festival Director Jeremy Staples on info@tidefestival.com.au for more information before Friday 15th of July.
