REBECCA'S YOUNG FAMILY TARGETED BY MASKED THUGSNew Member for Redlands, Rebecca Young and her family, have been caught up in Queensland's crime crisis.The new LNP Member of Parliament and her family have been confronted by armed and masked intruders.They were trying to steal her car in the driveway of her Victoria Point home.The incident happened just days after the Queensland State elections that saw the LNP and Rebecca, swept into power.The irony is that the major issue in the campaign has been to crack down on youth crime that has been out of hand in Queensland. Never for a moment did Rebecca Young think she would become one of the ‘victims’ of the rampant youth crime.CCTV footage showed the masked thugs approach the front of Rebecca Young's home, before her husband, Justin, managed to scare them off.But Rebecca, who has been campaigning as an LNP candidate and now Member of Parliament over the past 12 months for tougher penalties on young offenders, said the problem has been getting consistently worse for those living in her community."It was a very, very scary experience and after Justin chased them off, we called for police assistance immediately," she said."But, you know, this isn't about us - this is a very common occurrence in our community.“A family at the top of our street has been invaded by youths on three separate occasions in the past 12 months,” Rebecca Young said.Husband, Justin, added these kids are "getting around without a care in the world" and neighbourhoods are being impacted by it every single day."They are getting into other people's things and putting other people's lives and livelihoods at risk and it's a massive concern," he said."The situation has been a lynchpin of the LNP campaign that saw them re-elected just a couple of weeks prior to the Young family incident.Tougher laws are expected to be approved by the new Government before the end of the announced First 100 days!EDITOR’S NOTE: Aspects of this story were obtained from the Today Show on Nine
