REGIONAL FUTURES COLLABORATIVE PROJECT REACHING OUT TO ISLAND ORGANISATIONS FOR VITAL SUPPORT SERVICES

The Regional Futures Collaborative Project is reaching out to our islands.

The Regional Futures Collaborative Project is a collaboration between experts in technology, innovation, and support and advocacy services.

The project targets marginalised groups facing social isolation, with a unique focus on the elderly, people with disabilities, and an identified population of Forgotten Australians currently residing within the area, and particularly on our islands.

‘Forgotten Australians’, the Project says, are people experiencing or at risk of Homeless,

First Nations People, Older People, People with Disabilities, Women, and those individuals experiencing Mental Health issues.

The project is sponsored by Advance Queensland and seeks to engage these identified groups through the implementation of a Living Lab in Redland City that will improve health outcomes, drive economic growth, and create job opportunities, ultimately positioning Queensland as a leader in care innovation.

Skyla Blair, is the Events and Project Assistant for the project.

She is tasked with enhancing the ‘visibility of our project’.

“We wish to connect more effectively with members of the island community, via The Friendly Bay Islander.”

And the Regional Futures Collaborative Project hopes to do this by partnering with local organisations and networks.

Expected outcomes include:

• Increase technology adoption among marginalised communities.

• Improved health and social care outcomes through innovative solutions.

• Establishment of Redlands as a hub for innovation and technology in community care.

• Enhanced collaboration between community groups, service providers, and technology vendors.

Any island organisations are invited to reach out to see if the Regional Futures Collaborative Project may be of assistance.

COMMUNITY VIGIL SHOWS SOLIDARITY AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

The Redlands Coast community paused to acknowledge victims of domestic and family violence at the city’s annual Candle Lighting Vigil, recently held at Raby Bay Harbour Park, Cleveland.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the ceremony was held simultaneously with other candle lighting vigils across the state to mark Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

She said there were several local organisations doing amazing work to assist people in the community who have been impacted by domestic and family violence.

“This includes The Centre for Women & Co, Redland Community Centre, and Maybanke Accommodation and Crisis Support Service,” the Mayor said.

Council reminds the community that if you are feeling unsafe in your relationship, you can seek confidential advice from the following services:

  • DVConnect Womensline on 1800 811 811, 24 hours, seven days a week

  • DVConnect Mensline on 1800 600 636, from 9am to midnight, seven days a week.

If you are in immediate danger, contact police on Triple Zero (000) to seek assistance right away.
